Gluten-Free Holiday Treats!
Gluten is a protein that is found in wheat, spelt, barley and other grains. For most people, gluten is a part of almost every meal and snack–toast with breakfast, cookies for a snack, a sandwich for lunch, and pizza for dinner. If you have Celiac Disease then gluten must be avoided completely. Many people may have a gluten intolerance that may result in a variety of symptoms including fatigue, brain fog, bloating, and excessive hunger. By simply removing all gluten for one week you may feel less hungry, lose some weight, have more energy, and think more clearly. These are dramatic changes from just one dietary change.
While going completely gluten-free may not be necessary for everyone, reducing the amount of gluten consumed is a good idea for long-term health. One area where gluten is often found are desserts such as cakes, cookies, cupcakes, and pies. These treats are especially common during the holiday season. Fortunately, there are ways to make all of these desserts gluten free. At the Naturopathic Kitchen we like to make everything as healthy as possible, so we removed the gluten and used ingredients loaded with nutrients. Treats can be delicious and healthy!
